The end of 2013 marks our five year anniversary here at Surf Inn Hermosa and the end of one of our busiest year yet as we transitioned more into offering All Inclusive Active Lifestyle Packages. It has been a lot of fun entertaining our guests, fulfilling retreats not only for individuals and couples, but for groups as well. Everyone has had a great time and experienced PURA VIDA here in Costa Rica. This year, we have received visitors from all over the world. We were honored to host guests from Costa Rica, The United States, Canada, Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil, Ireland, England, Russia, China, Peru, Chile and India.
During low season, we took advantage of slower time to work on lots of maintenance and upgrades here at Surf Inn. All of the roofs, gutters and teak railings were attended to and we have new cement breakfast bars on the verandas of the oceanfront units. Both Christina and Michael have been very busy as well this year. Christina hosted the first 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification Program on our third floor yoga deck and received her own certification in Vinyasa Flow Yoga at the same time. This third floor yoga area is now available for retreats by reservation according to availability. She also became certified in Reiki Level One attunement and attained the First Degree in the Usui Method of Natural Healing. She also has just been let loose on Instagram.
Michael followed his passion and wrote a book called “Power Food Kitchen” which features easy to make plant based foods for living a high powered, active lifestyle. The book is now available at the Inn and also online at Amazon.com.
Overall, it has been an exciting year and we want to thank all of our friends, family and guests for all of their support in 2013 and we look forward to hosting all of you and new guests during the season in 2014!
The first 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification Program was hosted at Surf Inn Hermosa July 22nd-August 12th and it was a huge success.
Angelica Govaert from Sin City Yoga in Las Vegas arrived with her Yoga Teacher Trainees and for 21 days, Christina Truitt from Surf Inn and the group were immersed in Yoga. Not only were classes held on the oceanfront lawn, but the third floor oceanfront area was utilized for coursework and yoga classes..
After it was all said and done, the group not only learned about the yogic lifestyle, but became Certified Yoga Instructors and are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance. If you are interested in hosting a Retreat here at Surf Inn Hermosa, please contact Christina at firstname.lastname@example.org or if you want to participate in next year’s 200 Hour Teacher Training Program, please contact Angelica at email@example.com.
Watching the Sunset at Villa Caletas can be a one of a kind breathtaking experience and highly recommended. The Greek amphitheater overlooking the ocean boosts some of the most spectacular views in the Central Pacific zone. Best to arrive early and take in the view with sunset cocktails followed by a fabulous dinner at one of their two restaurants. Below are just a few shots from our last outing to their Amphitheater Restaurant.
Quite often one can take in the natural beauty of the Scarlet Red Macaw here in the Central Pacific zone of Costa Rica. Viewing Macaws here is as easy as sitting on the lawn outfront and watching them come visit the tropical almond trees by the beach. These birds love to eat the almond nuts, chipping out big chunks of the hard fruit to pick out its meal. Usually, they are found flying in pairs and sometimes, one can see them in larger groups. Below are just a few shots of the Red Macaws Visiting Us in Playa Hermosa!

Today, we had our first Solar Hot Water Heater Installed on the Roof! The energy of the sun will now be heating the water for our oceanfront units. The collector Solar Panel has been fitted to the roof and will be collecting heat from the sun throughout the day to heat up the water which is then stored in a the hot water cylinder.
Here at Surf Inn, we feel it is best to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and the Solar Hot Water Heater System is a great place to begin. Not only will it assist with savings on electric bills, but it will also help reduce the impact on the environment. Conventional hot water heater systems waste a significant amount of energy and solar energy is a renewable energy source, that is a clean, cost-effective solution that does not produce any harmful emissions. We are super excited here at Surf Inn Hermosa to be Going Green and we are thankful to Asdrubal Solano for installing our system.
