Location, Location, Location...Surf Inn is conveniently located 90 minutes from San Jose on the Pacific Coastal Highway (costanera). Driving Directions: Juan Santamaría Airport to Playa Hermosa, Costa RicaFrom the San Jose Airport (Juan Santa Maria) exit, turn right and go under the overpass. Turn right and go over the overpass to Alajuela. Do not go to Alajuela, but head north on highway 1 towards San Ramon. Travel approximately 8 miles ( 14 kilometers) along this highway, looking for a sign on the right that says "Marriott". When you see this sign, exit the highway towards the right. The road will go uphill towards an overpass, you take a left and drive over the bridge. |
There is now 2 ways to get to the beach:
The "New Road" - Autopista del Sol After you pass the bridge, you will see a gas station and mini-super called Media Luna (good place to grab a drink). Keep going a few kilometers past this and there is a larger blacktop intersection, make a left (most traffic should be going this way). You will go downhill through a small area called "La Garita" and in just a few minutes you will arrive at the new highway. Initially you will head towards Orotina, but once you are on the highway, do not exit when you see the sign for the actual city, instead keep going straight. |
The "Old Route" - Through Atenas Go over the overpass and follow the road thru the mountains. You will first pass through Atenas. There is a turn to watch out for in a town called San Mateo. You enter the town, but the 2 way part splits for a second as your lane veers to the right. At the next road, you make a left and drive by the city park which should be on your right hand side. Stay on the road as you begin to enter Orotina. You will drive over some old railroad tracks near a stopllight. Keep going, a few blocks later you will see a sign for Playa Jaco, follow the ramp to the highway. |
There will be a series of tolls before you see an exit for Jaco, take that. You have to drive under the overpass then you will see a small traffic circle. Pass through the circle (straight more or less) and you are now on the Costanera (main costal highway). You are about 30 minutes away at this point. You should pass a wide bridge that spans the Tarcoles River after just a few minutes on this road. After that, keep going 15 more minutes until you drive past several streets that lead into Playa Jaco. Hermosa is 5 minutes past Jaco. Once you are in Hermosa, the hotel is 500 yards past the soccer field on the right hand side. We have a big painting on the front of the building and the name SURF INN HERMOSA painted on the front. Reception is up the second set of stairs on the 3rd Floor in the Cafe. Look for the giant mural,
easily
visible from highway.
